American roulette is a game of luck, as are other casino games. It involves betting on the numbers on the board. American roulette has 38 slots consisting of numbers 1-36, 0, and 00. The numbers alternate among even and odd numbers, as well as colors black and red, except for 0 and 00 which are colored green. The action of American roulette begins with the spinning of the wheel by the dealer, and the rolling of the ball in the opposite direction that the wheel is spinning in, and as soon as the ball comes to a halt it will land into a numerical pocket.

The player's task in American roulette is to make various kinds of bets. The two principal bets in American roulette are the inside and outside bets.

There are many varieties of inside bets. Straight bets are those that land on a certain number. Split bets are bets that hit on any of two possible numbers adjacent to one another on the wheel. A trio bet indicates that you win when the ball drops on a number in a particular row. Four numbers, or corner bets, signifies that your bet wins if your ball hits any of four numbers that are touching. Five number bets are bets placed on 0, 00, 1, 2, or 3. Lastly, the six-line bet is a bet on any of six possible combinations in two rows that are next to each other.

Concerning the external bets: Red bets indicate that the roulette ball will drop in a red pocket, while black bet means that it will drop in the black. Even bets are those bets which mean that the ball will drop in an even number. Conversely, odd bets are those that indicate that the ball will hit an odd number. Low bet means the player bets the ball will drop in numbers 1 to 18 while high bets are bets on the ball dropping in 19 through 36. Dozen bets divides the table into three sections and you make a guess on which section the ball will stop (first 12, second 12, third 12).
