Roulette in French

En Prison - this is the rule which permits the player to take back half of his bet when the zero hits in the spin. The other half he uses to bet in another spin. It is called en prison because the other half seems to be imprisoned and must be played for another spin. Roulette players love this rule, because at least, they get another chance, and that not all is lost. The En Prison rule, therefore decreases the edge of the house over the players of roulette.

La partage - this rule looks like the en prison rule with a minor variation. When the zero hits, the roulette player takes back half of his bet, but instead of letting him use the other half for another spin, the house automatically gets the other half. Even if En Prison is better than this rule, La Partage still decreases the house edge.

En plein - it is a bet that a certain number will win in the next spin.

Cheval - this is a bet that one out of two particular numbers will win in the next round.

Transversale - a bet made by the roulette player that one of three certain numbers will hit on the next spin. It is also called as the Street Bet.

Rouge - French for the color red. In roulette, this means betting on the red numbers. Noir - French for black. In roulette, this is a bet that one of the black numbers will win on the next spin.

Manque - betting on the lower numbers

Passe - opposite of Manque, this is betting on the higher numbers You do not have to be a French translator to understand these terms.
